Love for Glowing, the new Bora York single

Our first Bora York single in 3 years is available everywhere.

Below is a sampling of what the blogosphere has been saying about it:

ALL THINGS GO

"Though the couple have been recharging creative batteries for the past three years, no time has been wasted as the perfection of their style can’t be any more obvious."

RIGHT CHORD MUSIC

"Clever production allows for the inclusion of many layers, especially vocal harmonies, without ever sounding too busy.  There is such pleasure to be had in a song that rewards the repeat listener with little surprises each time."

BLACK PLASTIC

"Glowing is the kind of joyful sounding sunbeam of a record I just can’t really resist. Full of tight layered percussion and jubilant melodies, this is the sound of bouncing down the street with your head full of someone who warms your heart up and makes you smile involuntarily."

CAESAR LIVE N LOUD

"Their harmonies are perfect here and the song is a summery, joyful piece of pop music."

AUPIUM

"With uplifting choruses and soft, exquisite croons that soar over a gorgeous production, Glowing is the alarm track for your serotonins"

TURTLE TEMPO

"Glowing is a glorious track that’s simply built for those lazy summer evenings spent with the nearest and dearest."

PURPLE MELON

"The track stitches together summery tones and smooth vocals to make for a colourful and warm summer anthem."

RIFT MAGAZINE

"A perfect track to get into your daily psyche, and into your summer playlist."

EAR COFFEE

"Despite the pop veneer, "Glowing" incorporates the group's more experimental tendencies. Blissed-out and glitchy vocals meld with chair squeaks and thumping drums.

What people are saying about the new Bora York album 'Secret Youth'

Tomorrow is the official release day for our sophomore Bora York album Secret Youth.  We've put lots of blood, sweat, and tears into this thing, and cannot wait to share with you.  We're always grateful to anyone who cares enough to listen... here's a sampling of what writers have been saying about the album and the singles we released prior:

Pop Matters, album stream premiere
"The Minneapolis band's effervescent second album joyously brings the 1980's into the present day."

Drunken Werewolf, album review
"First and foremost, Bora York, if anything, does pop music very well. Pop music has this amazing ability to include its listeners in on 'the experience'. More often than not, pop tunes consist of singalong choruses and feet-tapping beats, relieving any preoccupations its listeners might have had before. Bora York's music fulfills all of the aforementioned and this is all quite apparent, beginning with “Arrest Me”, the opening track off Secret Youth. The Bartels' vocal harmonies in the chorus are reminiscent of The Naked and Famous. The mesmerizing instrumental break in the last third of the song sets the mood for the rest of the album while hinting that this record was made with the intention of having its audience let loose – which brings me to one of the strongest tracks on this album.

From start to finish, “Let Loose” is the jam. The funk hits you the moment it comes on and you're struck by this urge to have fun. If that isn't enough, wait until you find yourself singing, “Never say never, when we've been waiting forever, forever” with an attitude that you won't believe is yours during the chorus. Just when you think there's no way this song can get any better, you're introduced to this feel-good, groovy guitar solo during the bridge and that's when you know, you've fallen in love with Bora York."

The Music Ninja, "Arrest Me" premiere
"Featuring a very danceable bassline, upbeat guitar work, sonic layering, and alternating vocals from husband-wife duo Chris and Rebekah Bartels. It’s soulfully crafted, funk-inspired, and an absolute blast to groove to."

Earmilk, "The Way You Groove" premiere
"Uplifting and catchy, "The Way You Groove" is both a grand introduction to Bora York and a spot on addition to their catalog of music for long-time fans."

Neon Gold Records, "Let Loose" premiere
"Summertime radness coming in hot today."

Indie Shuffle, "Let Loose" feature
"...infectious melodies and even catchier chorus."

Blushing Panda, "Arrest Me" feature
"There's so many layers to it, it's a real roller coaster, one that will bring you such happiness and eagerness to dance."

Right Chord Music, "The Way You Groove" feature and Band of the Week feature

Best way to catch all the press for Bora York is to keep tabs with us on Facebook and Twitter!

Bora York | Leagues

We've been hacking away at a new Bora York album, a follow-up to our 2013 debut Dreaming Free.  The first single since that album was Let Loose, which we released in June.  Our second is Leagues, an edgier 80s-synth-driven affair.  Have a listen:

Leagues is available for download and streaming on iTunes, Spotify, etc.

Bora York | Let Loose

Let Loose is the first new Bora York single since our debut album Dreaming Free.

Here's what people have been saying about it:

"Summertime radness coming in hot today."  - Neon Gold Records

"Bora York has really delivered a pop track that's laced with crystalline synths to chill you body as the chorus blasts in like a heavy heat wave. There's no doubt you'll be blasting and dancing to this track all through the summer months."  - Oblivious Pop

"It's impossible not to get swept up in the excitement, especially by the time the chorus comes around."  - Indie Shuffle

"It's really the type of song that makes you want to stand up from your desk and say, "You know what?  I'm finally going to go out and do X." This is a song built for action, not excuses, and it's got us ready to try something different."  - Soundchips

"If you’re as enamoured by enchanting dream pop and silky synths as I am, you’ll find plenty to enjoy in the band’s latest single."  - Chart Shaker

"... catchy-as-heck chorus."  - Music That Isn't Bad

"Impeccably crafted female-led indie pop"  - blahblahblahscience

"Let Loose sees the band seeking to take control of the dance floor, with its funky basslines and dual vocal harmonies making this one pretty wonderful track."  - The Metaphorical Boat

"The breezy cut gleams with Rebekah Bartels' soaring vocals, paced guitar riffs and laid back percussion."  - JayeL Audio

"After spending some time in the musical wilderness evidently honing their songwriting skills, Minneapolis based quintet Bora York have returned with a dazzling and equally upbeat new track titled Let Loose."  - Made of Chalk

"That’s something we can all get behind."  - All Things Go

Bora York: Band of the Week on Beacon Audio

Beacon Audio was kind enough to feature Bora York as their band of the week this past week.

"My constant praise for this band prevents me from presenting them with any kind of objectivity. My fledgling relationship with Bora York has come at a price, however. Thanks to them, I will continue to click every link to check out every band every one of my friends ever sends me. Because for every 1,000 awful bands I endure I know I will find a Bora York."

The feature also includes an interview I had with them and our Radio K in-studio performance video of Ghost Lights.

Check it out here.
